Tesla Roadster 2026: Unveiled, Specs, Price & Release Date

Tesla unveiled its next-generation Roadster on 15 October 2026 at a SpaceX test site in McGregor, Texas, nearly nine years after the first prototype appeared. Production is now planned for 2028, no final price was announced, and the car is not available in the Philippines. Here is what is confirmed, what is still a claim, and what it means for local buyers.

What did Tesla show at the Roadster unveiling?

The event was first scheduled for 1 October and moved to 15 October. Tesla showed the car launching off a large curved ramp using cold-gas thrusters developed with SpaceX, flipping in mid-air and landing safely, and in a second stunt flipping over a line of cars and a semi-truck. Tesla also demonstrated a Roadster accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in under one second.

Elon Musk said certain versions can reach 0-60 mph in under a second and a top speed of more than 230 mph. Tesla said the thruster system produces 4 to 5 times the force the tires can, which is how it plans to beat the grip limit of normal cars. Tesla also described the car as "the best of the last human-driven cars."

Treat the performance figures as manufacturer claims from a staged demonstration. Independent testing of a production car is not possible yet, because none has been built.

How much will the Tesla Roadster cost?

Tesla has not announced a final price. Back in 2017 it quoted a base price of US$200,000, but executives did not confirm any price at the 2026 event.

What Tesla did publish is the reservation structure after the event:

  • Performance: a US$50,000 reservation payment.
  • Thrust: a US$250,000 reservation payment. This version adds the "acceleration thrusters."
  • Rocket: an invite-only, single-seat version with a "full flight system."

Because these are reservation payments rather than final prices, do not read them as the cost of the car. Pricing for the Philippines has not been announced either.

When is the Tesla Roadster release date?

Tesla executives said at the event that production would begin in 2028. That is a long way from the original promise: when the Roadster was first shown in November 2017, Tesla said deliveries would start in 2020. Production dates have slipped repeatedly since, so a 2028 target is best treated as a plan rather than a guarantee.

What do we know about the Roadster's range and battery?

Not much has been confirmed for the production car. In 2017, Tesla's prototype claims included a 200 kWh battery, around 620 miles (1,000 km) of range, three electric motors (one front, two rear) and a 2+2 seating layout. Those figures date from the 2017 prototype, and at the time a Bloomberg analyst questioned whether that much battery could physically fit the car. Tesla has not confirmed final production specifications for range, battery size or charging speed, so we are not repeating them as fact.

Is the Tesla Roadster coming to the Philippines?

There is no announcement for the Philippines. Tesla has no stated plans, pricing or reservation process for the Roadster here. Production is still about two years away, and low-volume halo cars usually reach a handful of markets first.

If you are curious about Tesla in the Philippines today, the cars you can actually look at are the current models. Our guides cover the Tesla Model 3 in the Philippines, how it compares in Tesla vs BYD, and which chargers work with each. Why does the Roadster matter for EVs in the Philippines?

Even if you never see one on a Philippine road, the Roadster signals where performance EVs are heading, and cheaper technology tends to filter down from halo cars over time. For Philippine drivers, the more practical story is still charging: how many chargers are near you, which connectors they use and what a charge costs. That is what we track, with live maps and charging network guides.

Frequently asked questions

When was the new Tesla Roadster unveiled?

Tesla unveiled the next-generation Roadster on 15 October 2026 at a SpaceX test site in McGregor, Texas, after the event was moved from 1 October.

When will the Tesla Roadster go into production?

Tesla executives said production would begin in 2028. The original 2017 plan was deliveries in 2020, so the date has slipped many times.

How much does the Tesla Roadster cost?

No final price has been announced. Tesla quoted US$200,000 for the base model in 2017, and its reservation page lists US$50,000 for the Performance version and US$250,000 for the Thrust version, which are reservation payments rather than the car's price.

Is the Tesla Roadster available in the Philippines?

No. Tesla has not announced any Philippine launch, price or reservation process for the Roadster.

How fast is the Tesla Roadster?

Tesla demonstrated a 0-60 mph run in under one second at the unveiling, and Musk said certain versions would exceed 230 mph. These are manufacturer claims from a demonstration, not independent test results.
